Description

Professionals who have previously completed the course on “Transdisciplinary Care for Young Children” will have the opportunity to apply for a personalized internship with the Doctor and experience firsthand how she applies the knowledge, attends to her patients, and approaches her transdisciplinary work at the pediatric center.
We, orthodontists, work hand in hand with pediatricians, otolaryngologists, physiotherapists, psychologists, speech therapists, and pediatric dentists to provide the patient with all the tools needed to reach their full potential, always working as a team.
During this 3-day internship with Dr. Marisa Santos, professionals will have the opportunity to observe, participate, and learn in a real clinical setting, applying the knowledge they have already acquired. They will also be able to bring their own cases to discuss with the doctor.

Methodology

Understanding the role of the mouth in the pathogenesis of sleep apnea is crucial, particularly regarding mandibular position, dental malocclusion, and a high arched palate. In practice, transdisciplinary treatment plays a significant role, and its application, including the involvement of orthodontists, is essential in improving respiratory issues, sleep apnea, and the quality of life for growing patients. This approach emphasizes the importance of early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of Obstructive Sleep-Disordered Breathing (OSDB) in pediatric patients.

Expanding knowledge in diagnosing and treating OSDB, recognizing patient characteristics, and addressing morphological and functional alterations are key components. Pediatric dentists should be equipped with the necessary expertise to integrate into the transdisciplinary team, applying learned methods and techniques, such as instrument placement, to enhance patient care.
